Valves for dams reservoir and hydropower
The AVK Group provides an extensive range of high-quality discharge and guard valves that we manufacture, as well as an selection of additional valve types from our own brands and trusted partners.
AVK is well-known brand in the water supply industry, and many of our firms are known for their expertise to large infrastructure projects involving dams, reservoirs, and hydropower.
AVK Philippines has been supplying large diameter valves in several projects, and are able to provide solutions with our global valve manufacturers such as Orbinox, Glenfield, AC.MO.
Orbinox has established its record over the past 40 years by providing tailored solutions to a diverse range of projects around the world.
Glenfield brings over a century of experience in this industry with one of their first projects back to 1913, and today their incredibly durable designs are built at our high-tech large valve factory located in China.
AC.MO adds wide range of needle valves in along with AVK's large selection of water supply products.

Discharge control valves
Discharge control valves are made to safely release the enormous kinetic energy found in vast volumes of moving water, as well as to regulate the discharge flow from dams, reservoirs, and hydro by by-pass systems.
Fixed cone (free) discharge valves
Fixed cone valves are used to pass a controlled amount of water downstream without harming the immediate surroundings due to its qualities that dissipate energy. The valve body is designed to operate safely minimizing erosion or other damage to the surroundings.
The valve bodies are manufactured in either ductile iron or fabricated stainless-steel dependant on installation and application. The sleeve is made from stainless steel and uses upstream and downstream seals to ensure drop-tight shutoff. Operation of the valve sleeve is via twin screwed spindles, worm gearboxes, intermediate rods, and a double bevel input gearbox. Actuating gear maby be manually, electrically or hydraulically operated.
Features:
- End of line installation, for high volume dam or reservoir discharge
- Hydraulic balance, no differential loads, low operating effort, small actuator.
- Resilient seal for drop-tight shut-off.
- Effective dissipation of the flowing water kinetic energy before it strikes any boundary surface, minimum wear/erosion, no cavitation risk.
- Acid proof stainless steel sleeve with epoxy coated ductile iron components for high corrosion resistance.

Submerged discharge valves
AVK submerged discharge valves (Glenfield design) enable discharge control in a small footprint while dissipating energy in a safe, quieter, and more ecologically friendly manner. The valves are cast in ductile iron and feature a bronze-ported epoxy-coated body with stainless steel inner parts for excellent corrosion resistance. They are available in DN200-1600 in PN16 and DN600-1000 in PN25, with either an electric actuator or a gearbox.

Needle valve (also known as plunger valves)
AVK needle valves are straight-way type control valves and are designed with a one-piece body construction and an innovative design for flow optimization to ensure a reduced pressure loss in open valve position.
Penstocks
Penstocks are intended to isolate and regulate flow in pipelines, canals, and reservoirs. They are widely used in water and wastewater treatment plants, as well as flood control and irrigation systems, because they provide dependable and cost-effective flow isolation and regulation.
Knife gate valves for high pressure/high velocity closure
High pressure knife gate valves, also known as bonneted slide gate valves, are suited for large-diameter pipelines requiring precise control over high flow volumes and velocities. They are particularly effective in media containing suspended solids, making them suitable for dams, reservoirs, and related applications. The straight-through design minimizes pressure drop, while the compact construction provides low operating torque and ease of installation, making them perfect for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Butterfly valves
Butterfly valves are commonly used in dams, reservoirs, and hydropower facilities. Their compact dimensions and ¼ turn operation make them cost-effective and appropriate for installation when space is restricted and quick shut-off is needed. We provide a wide selection of fabricated and cast double eccentric butterfly valves designed to fulfill the needs of high pressure/velocity and big diameter applications in water infrastructure.
Gate valves (wedge design)
Gate valves serve as vital elements of water infrastructure such as dams, reservoirs, and hydropower plants because they ensure the reliable shut-off of huge volumes of water under high pressure. They are designed for infrequent on-off operation and have a low flow resistance when completely open due to their full bore, making them excellent for isolation duties.
