Glenfield contributed with more than a century of delivering “Project solutions”, since their first project in 1913, Glenfield have gained considerable experience and expertise in designing, manufacturing and installation of specialist valves, and penstocks for the water supply industry, which includes clean water, wastewater, dams and reservoirs, as well as hydropower and non-utility infrastructure.

Discharge control valves
Discharge valves are used for high-volume water discharge from dams and reservoirs. Safely dissipating the energy of fast-flowing water while controlling the flow rate. They are also used in hydropower systems to regulate turbine bypass flow and can be used for other applications like controlling water levels in tanks or protecting systems against pressure surges.
Fixed cone (free) discharge valves
Fixed cone valves are used to pass a controlled amount of water downstream without harming the immediate surroundings due to its qualities that dissipate energy. The valve body is designed to operate with minimum vibration over its full stroke and used specially shaped aerodynamically designed ribs leading to a downstream cone. Fixed cone valves are installed at the outlet of the dams or reservoir and discharging directly into the atmosphere. The valve bodies are manufactured in either ductile iron or fabricated stainless-steel depend on installation and application. The sleeve is made from stainless steel and uses upstream and downstream seals to ensure drop-tight shut off. Operation of the valve sleeve is via twin screwed spindles, worm gearboxes, intermediate rods and a double bevel input gearbox. Actuating gear may be manually, electrically or hydraulically operated
ORBINOX manufactured fixed cone discharge valves type CH can be customized to fulfill the unique service requirements of each application. Sizes up to DN3000 and designs for heads up to 400mWc are available in carbon steel or various grades of stainless steel, with manual, electric, or hydraulic actuation options.
AVK Series 857 fixed cone discharge valves are designed to safely dissipate the surplus energy from large amounts of rapidly flowing water. Installed at the outlet of dams or reservoirs and discharging directly into the atmosphere, they operate safely minimizing erosion or other damage to the surroundings.
Submerged discharge valves
AVK submerged discharge valves (Glenfield design) enable discharge control in a compact footprint while dissipating energy in a safe, quieter, and more ecologically friendly environment. The valves are cast in ductile iron and feature a bronze-ported epoxy-coated body with stainless steel inner parts for excellent corrosion resistance. They are available in DN200-1600 in PN16 and DN600-1000 in PN25, with either an electric actuator or a gearbox.
Needle valve or plunger valves
AVK needle valves are designed for throttling and control of pressure and flow at high flow rates and high differential pressures. The focus is on durability and reliability with the sturdy valve housing made of either stainless steel or ductile iron coated with fusion bonded epoxy. It controls with high precision and the high-quality materials guarantee long service life with easy maintenance access. Gearbox construction with bronze worm wheel to ensure precise regulation kept throughout lifetime. They are available up to DN2500 and up to PN40 in smaller sizes. Sizes up to DN150 are made of stainless steel as standard, and larger sizes cast in ductile iron coated with fusion bonded epoxy.
Radial gates
Pivoting taintor/radial gate for installation in channels and dam spillways either as a control element for water levels or as a regulation and discharge elements in deepwater outlets of dams. Radial gates are formed by a mechanically welded curved sector shaped panel which closes with elastomer profiles attached to the panel with fixed parts embedded in the concrete. The gate open and closes with minimal movement, resulting in reduced lifting force needs. The benefits include quick actuation, large discharge capacity, and safe simple operation.
Roller gates
Rectangular or square section roller gate with wheels for closing large size openings and penstocks with high water heads. Flat rectangular roller gates used for easy operation in high head and large opening applications. ORBINOX MV Roller gates is rugged fabricated construction, available in a wide range of sizes and special materials to match specific requirements and depending on the head under which the gate will operate. It is available with hydraulic, electric actuator, with possibility of extended actuator, can be equipped with by-pass for pressure balancing.
Penstocks
Penstocks are used for controlling water flow in various applications, such as water and wastewater treatment plants, irrigation systems, flood control, dams and reservoirs, and hydro-electtic power plants. They are also used in industrial sectors like mining, powes generation, and pulp and paper industry.
ORBINOX have wall-mounted penstocks are square, round and rectangular or round base with resilient sealing on all four sides of the slide, bi-directional flow between and including 1300 x 1300 mm – 1500 x 2000 mm. The closed frame is designed for wall mounting or for embedding in concrete. Operation with non-rising stem. All penstocks in the comprehensive product range feature low leakage rate and reliable operation.
Knife gate valves for high pressure/high velocity closure
High pressure knife gate valves, also known as bonneted slide gate valves, are suited for large-diameter pipelines requiring precise control over high flow volumes and velocities. They are particularly effective in media containing suspended solids, making them suitable for dams, reservoirs, and related applications. The straight-through design minimizes pressure drop, while the compact construction provides low operating torque and ease of installation, making them perfect for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Butterfly valves
Butterfly valves are commonly used in dams, reservoirs, and hydropower facilities. Their compact dimensions and ¼ turn operation make them cost-effective and appropriate for installation when space is restricted and quick shut-off is needed. We provide a wide selection of fabricated and cast double eccentric butterfly valves designed to fulfill the needs of high pressure/velocity and big diameter applications in water infrastructure.
Bonneted gate valves
Square and rectangular section flush bottom bonneted gate design according to Bureau of Reclamation standards for bottom outlets in dams and reservoirs. Orbinox BU Model is completely enclosed rectangular-port sliding gate for regulating and closing flow through the outlet works of dams. It is designed to be embedded (except the actuator) in concrete after installation. Robust fabricated construction of carbon steel, with high-performance bronze or stainless-steel seats. It can be equipped with air vent piping system to avoid cavitation and with by-pass for pressure balancing. We offer wide range of sizes and special materials to match specific requirements, also available with hydraulic, electric or manual actuator.
Gate valves
Gate valves are crucial components of water infrastructure such as dams, reservoirs, and hydropower plants because they ensure the reliable shut-off of huge volumes of water under high pressure. They are designed for infrequent on-off operation and have a low flow resistance when completely open due to their full bore, making them excellent for isolation duties.
The Reservoir specification gate valve is an enhanced version of the AVK Series 54 product range and has several key features which allows it to be used under more extreme conditions and can be used for isolation of piped systems with flow velocities of up to 10m/s.
